Bandits on Tuesday afternoon launched an attack on a village in Katsina State, killing no fewer than 23 men.
The bandits stormed Doma Village in Faskari Local Government Area of the state, shooting mostly men that resulted to the death of the victims.
A source close to the community told Impact Nigeria News Online on Tuesday night that the bandits came on motorcycles into the village and started shooting at the men, sparing both the women and children in the community.
They also set buildings ablaze and took some of the injured men with them as captives.
The killings of the men came despite the “peace deal” the authorities of the local government reached with the bandits, as the source revealed that the killings might not be unconnected with the inability of the villagers to pay the levies imposed on them.
It was also gathered that those who were killed were buried on Tuesday evening, while the village has been thrown into panic over the possibility of the bandits returning to launch more attacks.
The Northern part of the country, especially the North-West, has been under the grips of bandits and terrorists who unleash mayhem on residents, killing some, injuring others while also abducting victims for ransom.
As of the time of this report, neither the state government nor any security agencies had reacted to the killings which the source said had become very common in the local government area.
