It was divine providence that saved a mother, her four-year-old son as well as eleven other passengers as a commercial bus they were in somersaulted at the Coastal Road in Lagos State.
The accident occurred inward Okun-Ajah end of the road when the driver of the vehicle, with registration number, AKD 509 XL, suddenly lost control apparently as a result of brake failure, causing the bus to somersault due to his excessive speed.
It was gathered that after the vehicle somersaulted, it landed on its side, trapping the passengers and it took the efforts of bystanders and emergency responders to bring them out of the vehicle.
Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) arrived at the scene after receiving a distress call and its paramedic personnel rushed the four-year-old child, his mother and two others who were seriously injured to the Mother and Child Hospital at Abraham Adesanya, Lekki, while other injured passengers were taken to other hospitals in the area.
The accident caused massive traffic bottleneck along the stretch of the road and it took frantic efforts of LASTMA personnel and police officers to control the attendant traffic situation and restore peace.
The bus was later removed from the road and taken to the Ogombo Police Station.
