Authorities of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) on Friday, November 7, suspended academic activities at the Iseyin campus of the institution for two weeks.
This decision followed the death of a 200-Level student of the Department of Agricultural Economics killed by a hit-and-run driver at a road in the town.
It was gathered that the student was on his way to attend lectures at the Iseyin campus of the university on Friday when the driver fatally wounded him and fled. He was pronounced dead when he was brought to a hospital in the town.
According to a statement by the university and signed by Mrs Olayinka Balogun, the university extended deepest condolences to the family, friends and school mates of the deceased student.
The statement said: “In the light of this grievous loss and in recognition of the emotional toll it has taken on our students and staff, the university management has approved a two-week suspension of academic activities at the Iseyin campus, effective immediately.
“Consequently, all students in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources are to proceed on a two-week break.”
It said after the two-week suspension of academic activities, students are expected to return to classrooms on Monday, November 24, officers on essential duties are to be informed about their schedules.
