Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has convened an expanded State Security Council meeting with heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, and chairmen of the 17 Local Government Areas in the state to address the rising cases of killings and banditry in the state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday, April 8, by the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere.

The statement noted that the meeting was part of efforts to address rising insecurity and strengthen peaceful coexistence in the state.

It further noted that the meeting, held at the Government House in Jos, reviewed the security situation and outlined strategies to prevent further attacks.

The state security council meeting comes amid a series of attacks that have reportedly left at least 50 people dead in communities across the state in the past week.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Bassey Ewah, said the session provided an opportunity to assess recent developments and coordinate security operations.

Ewah also disclosed that the council agreed to relax the curfew put in place in the state following a Palm Sunday attack on residents from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and warned residents to comply with the directive fully.

Ewah warned that violators of the curfew would be prosecuted and reiterated that restrictions on commercial motorcycle operations and tricycle movements remain in force.

He also dismissed reports of planned protests, insisting that the situation in the state remains calm.

“The government is not siding with any faith. All decisions are aimed at ensuring peace. To the best of my knowledge, there have been no protests and no breakdown of law and order,” he added.

The police commissioner urged residents to support ongoing security efforts by complying with directives, stressing that unity among security agencies remains strong.
