Forty six citizens of some West African countries who were arrested at various communities in Ogun State have told security agencies that they were merchants and workers affiliated with QNet, an online marketing platform.

The 46 citizens were arrested at various locations within Ijebu Imushin, Ilese and surrounding communities during a targeted security operation carried out by troops of the Nigerian Army in conjunction with Department of State Services (DSS), NSCDC and Immigration on June 11.

It was gathered that the arrested persons, comprising 36 men and 10 ladies, were made up of 18 nationals of Burkina Faso, 23 nationals of Ivory Coast, four nationals of Togo and one national of Senegal and they were found to have been residing in the communities for about six months without valid immigration documentation.

“During interrogation, the suspects claimed to be merchants and workers affiliated with QNet, an online marketing platform involved in the sale of various commodities,” the Nigerian Army said in a statement on Monday, June 15.

The arrested men and women have been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Ogun State command, for further investigation and appropriate administrative action in accordance with extant laws.
