A total of 328 Nigerians were on Thursday, July 23, moved out of an immigration detention facility in Libya and are on the verge of being flown back to Nigeria.
The Nigerians have been in the detention centre for some time over various immigration offences including attempt to cross into Europe from Libya through the Mediterranean Sea.
According to the Directorate for Combatting Illegal Migration (DCIM) of the Ministry of Interior in Libya, the Nigerians were moved out of the East Tripoli Immigration Detention Centre located in Tajouri on Thursday afternoon.
They are currently being profiled with the help of officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Tripoli as of the time of this report.
They are expected to be flown back to the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, through the Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli, the country’s capital, before the end of this week, according to a statement by the country’s Ministry of Interior.

Many Nigerians who are desperate to get to Europe usually go through Libya and on getting there, some of them become stranded in the North African country, engaging in various undignifyng jobs or criminal activities.
This year alone, many Nigerians have been flown back from Libya through the intervention of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.
