Former Secretary to the government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal have been slammed with a 10 count suits for the alleged awarding of over N272 million to a company allegedly owned by him.

The company, Rholvision Engineering Limited was said to have been awarded a whooping 272 million for the removal of wild grass and the provision of 115 hectares of simplified village irrigation in Yobe state.

The contract was awarded under the Presidential Initiative for the North East (PINE), which handles the procurement of relief materials, medical equipments and project vehicles for IDP in the North-East.

The former SGF was removed in 2017 after he was indicted by Senate committee that investigated the management of money meant to assist persons displaced by the activities of Boko Haram in the North East of the country.

The federal government also filed a similar suit against the former boss of the Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ayo Oke who was removed from office after millions of dollars belonging to the agency was found in an apartment in Lagos.

According to the charge sheet, the accused persons were brought before a high court in the Federal Capital Territory on Wednesday for the alleged offence.

The two former government officials were relieved of their duties after a committee chaired by the Vice President concluded its investigation on the allegation of corruption against the duo.

Recently the Vice President announced that President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that charges be filed against the two.

Although the former SGF was relieved of his duties and position, he remained a major campaigner of the president in Adamawa state.

Prior to this development, opposition have said the reluctance of the Buhari’s administration to prosecute the former SGF is an indication that the anticorruption of  the administration is a witch-hunt of the opposition.
