It was the end of the road for two members of a kidnapping gang who abducted a man in Ondo State as they have been arrested at their hideout in Ibadan, Oyo State and Ipele, Ondo State, by men of the Ondo State Police Command.
The two kidnappers, Adamu Rabiu and Haruna Likita, were arrested in connection with the abduction of Abubakar Abdulrahim. While Rabiu was arrested at his hideout in Ibadan, Likita was picked up around Ipele via Owo.
It was gathered that the victim was abducted on August 1 at Molege on the way to Owo by the syndicate before they later abandoned him following persistent follow up by the command and went to hide in different places.
The arrest of the two men followed intelligence gathering by operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, Akure, who proceeded to Ibadan where they worked in collaboration with the Oyo State Police Command and arrested Rabiu.
They also went ahead with the information gathered and arrested Likita around Ipele where he was hiding.
According to the command, preliminary investigation established links between the two men and the kidnapping of Abubakar Abdullahim.
During their interrogation, they were said to have made statements admitting their involvement in the crime.
“Their statements, alongside other emerging intelligence, are being further investigated to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify other persons who may be connected to the crime,” the command said in a statement on Sunday, August 23.
The matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigation and they are expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
“Efforts are ongoing to pursue all credible leads and deploy intelligence-driven strategies to dismantle kidnapping networks and prevent criminal elements from finding refuge within Ondo State,” the command added.
