Bandits who abducted five Islamic clerics while they were returning from an event organised by Senator Abdulaziz Yari have demanded the sum of N30 million for their release.
The five clerics were among those invited to Senator Yari’s residence in Talata Mafara on Saturday, September 12 and they were abducted on their way home after the event.
The names of those abducted were given as Imam Yahuza, Magawata Abdullahi, Malam Shehu Dakko, Imam Bala Fagon and Na’ibi Tasi’u Tungar.
However, seven days after their abduction, the bandits were said to have established line of communication on Saturday, asking for N30 million as ransom before they could regain their freedom.
A source in the know of the development told Impact Nigeria News Online on Sunday afternoon that the family members of the abducted clerics are currently confused regarding how to source for the money while also hoping that the ransom would be reduced as time goes on.
The source added that some members of the Muslim community in the state are appealing to Senator Yari, who invited them to the programme, to help in the ransom payment so that the clerics will regain their freedom.
As of the time of this report, both the Zamfara State government as well as the senator have not reacted to the demand of the bandits.
The Northern part of the country, especially the North-West, has been under the grips of bandits and terrorists who unleash mayhem on the residents of various communities in the region, killing people and abducting others for ransom.
