A man who was said to be an informant to bandits in a community in Sokoto State has been arrested by security operatives.
The man, identified as Ashiru Abubakar, was accused of supplying information to bandits in Romo village, Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State and also working with criminal elements operating around Tambuwal communities.
It was also gathered that he was linked to a threat against Romo village, where residents were given seven-day ultimatum to pay ₦10 million levy or face an attack before the end of this week.
He was also found with wads of cash during his arrest and the money was suspected to have been given to him by the bandits he was giving information to for his service.
According to a source close to the community, he is currently with men of the Nigerian Army undergoing interrogation.
In another positive development, on Sunday night, security forces killed 18 bandits at Gidan Iyado, Kakumi Ward, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State during an intelligence-led operation.
Hunters, Community Watch Corps and local vigilantes collaborated with soldiers and moved on the group following information about a planned mass abduction for ransom.
During the encounter, three rifles, 14 rounds of ammunition, three motorcycles, two cows and 94 sheep were recovered.
The Northern part of the country, especially the North-West, has been under the grips of bandits and terrorists who unleash mayhem on residents of various communities, killing people and abducting others for ransom.
