Three guns and five cartridges were recovered at the home of a man during his arrest by men of the Plateau State Police Command after he was said to have shot his wife to death with one of the weapons.
The husband, Dachung Davou, aged 40 years, reportedly carried out the gruesome act at their residence in Haita Fwil Village, Vwang, Kogot, Jos South Local Government Area of the state on October 18 around 9:00 a.m.
It was gathered that the man allegedly shot the wife, Jessica Davou, with the firearm on the left side of her chest during a domestic disagreement.
Following the shooting and the woman writhing in her pool of blood, a distress call was made to the Kaduna Vom Division of the command by one of the neighbours.
Upon receipt of the call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area sent his men to the scene where the husband was arrested and the wife was rushed to the hospital for medical attention. However, she was confirmed dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.
“Further interrogation of the suspect by crack detectives of the State Violent Crime Response Unit led to the detection and recovery of additional weapons from the suspect making a total of three locally fabricated firearms and five cartridges,” the command said in a statement on Friday night.
The husband was said to have given more useful information to the police operatives while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigation.
He is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
