In a harrowing incident that has sent shockwaves through the community of Malari Village in Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, the police have arrested a woman for the alleged murder of her co-wife’s three-month-old baby boy.

The suspect, identified as Zaliha Shuaibu, is accused of carrying out the gruesome act at the family residence she shares with the baby’s mother, Maryam Ibrahim. According to preliminary investigations conducted by the Kaduna State Police Command, the crime occurred when Maryam briefly left her infant son unattended to use the restroom.

Upon returning, Maryam reportedly found Zaliha holding the baby, who was already showing signs of distress – foam was seen coming from his mouth, and he had a visible injury on his neck. The infant was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.

Following immediate suspicion and preliminary questioning, Zaliha was taken into custody. During interrogation, police say she confessed to the killing and further implicated her husband’s younger brother, Lawal Muhammad, alleging that he provided the acid used in the attack.

In a statement released to the press, the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, condemned the act in the strongest terms and assured the public that justice would be served. He confirmed that a thorough investigation is ongoing and that all individuals found to be complicit in the crime will face prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.

“This is a deeply troubling and senseless act,” the Commissioner said. “We are committed to ensuring that those responsible are held accountable without delay.”

The incident has reignited conversations around domestic tensions in polygamous households and the need for stronger community vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals, particularly children.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether additional arrests have been made in connection with the case, but the investigation remains active.

More updates will follow as the story develops.
