The family of the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, the late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, has expressed optimism that the Federal Government would pay the family all the presidential entitlements of the business mogul.
It, therefore, appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to look into its request.
Secretary of the family and one of the sons of Abiola, Ameen, said this, yesterday, during a prayer session held at the MKO Abiola Family House at the Gbagura area of Abeokuta.
He said the President Bola Tinubu-led government has the capacity to ensure that all “incentives due to Abiola get to the family.”
He said: “I believe this government would do everything it takes to make sure that all that we ought to have got from previous government gets to us.”
Ameen said beyond payment of the entitlements, the Federal Government should implement most of the people-oriented policies Abiola promised Nigerians while alive.
In his remarks, the governor, Dapo Abiodun, who was represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, noted that 30 years after the June 12 election, it is important to continue to reiterate the role played by the late Abiola in fighting for democracy.
He added that Abiola lived a good life worthy of emulation.
“He lived a good life we should learn from,” he said. We should learn from his good deeds. He always followed the tenets of God in all his activities,” he said.
The governor used the opportunity to call on Nigerians to continue to pray and support the administration of President Bola Tinubu, saying that fuel subsidy removal was in the best interest of the country.
He gave the assurance that Tinubu would develop the country, provide infrastructure, healthcare and education that would make Nigeria a better country.
Also, at a rally in celebration of June 12 Democracy Day, held at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, Abiodun urged Nigerians to give Tinubu the maximum support.
He added that though some of the recent policies, such the fuel subsidy removal, might come out with initial inconvenience, it is important to persevere.
