The African Democratic Congress (ADC) rose from its 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Saturday, May 30, and declared former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, a ‘prisoner of conscience,’ calling for his immediate release.
El-Rufai is currently in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) after he was ordered to be remanded there by the court.
However, at the meeting on Thursday, the NEC of ADC said El-Rufai is being tried unjustly, saying he is a prisoner of conscience.
Also at the meeting, the NEC approved the extension of the tenure of the National Working Committee (NWC) for 12 months after the expiration of their current tenure.
In a four-paragraph statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, shortly after the end of the meeting, the party’s NEC also approved the constitution of the Caretaker Committees in zones, states, local governments and wards for a period of 12 months.
The NEC also approved the results of all recently conducted primaries for Houses of Assembly, the National  Assembly, governorship and the presidential elections; except those with pending appeals as at May 29 and those yet to be concluded.
