The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos State, George Ashiru, has hailed the party’s recently concluded 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting as a resounding success, describing it as a bold step toward political renewal in Nigeria.

He pledged Lagos State’s full cooperation with the newly inaugurated national leadership, led by interim Chairman David Mark.

Ashiru, who is also a NEC member, made the remarks in a statement released by Mabel Oboh, the State Director of Communications and outgoing National Publicity Secretary. He praised the new leadership’s emphasis on collective leadership, a technically competent party bureaucracy, and structured financing, which he said would encourage broader ownership of the party among members.

“This new direction ensures that every member of the ADC truly owns the party and works together for a better Nigeria,” Ashiru said.

Mabel Oboh, who also attended the meeting, expressed satisfaction with the swearing-in of the interim National Working Committee (NWC). She highlighted the party’s commitment to gender equity and youth inclusion, applauding the reservation of 35% of leadership positions for women and efforts to ensure that leaders under 40 take on active roles.

Oboh also praised David Mark’s plan to establish a 50-member Policy Committee tasked with developing implementable strategies across key sectors, including education, health, technology, and the economy.

“This transition is a turning point for the ADC,” she said. “We are back to work and focused on delivering transparency, accountability, and internal democracy.”

The NEC meeting also marked the official dissolution of the former NWC, following a motion by former National Organising Secretary Ibrahim Suleiman, and seconded by Charles Omidiji of Osun State. The leadership change was supervised by INEC officials.

With the new interim leadership in place, party leaders are optimistic that the ADC is well-positioned to play a transformative role in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
