The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday, December 2, held its primary to pick its governorship candidate for the 2026 election in Osun State and Adedamola Adebayo emerged as the candidate of the party.
Adedamola Adebayo, popularly known as Fryo, was one of those who faced trial over the murder of the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige. Chief Ige was murdered in his Ibadan home on December 23, 2021. He was aged 71.
According to court records, Fryo was the prime suspect and one of the major accused persons who faced two-count charge of conspiracy and murder of Ige, Second Republic Governor of old Oyo State (now made up of Oyo and Osun State).
He faced trial alongside Jelili Adesiyan, Kunle Alao, Alani Omisore, Lambe Oyasope, and they were all political associates of Senator Iyiola Omisore, who is also a governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The case eventually became unresolved and no one was convicted in relation to the murder of Chief Bola Ige.
During the primary election held in Osogbo, the state capital, on Tuesday, Adedamola Adebayo emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate by polling 919 votes out of 957 valid votes cast.
The primary was conducted under tight security, and Governor Ademola Adeleke’s name appeared on the ballot despite his withdrawal from the party.
