Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has etched his name into the record books with a stunning first-half performance that places him among Europe’s elite.
The Atalanta star became only the third player in Europe’s top five leagues during the 2024–25 season to register four goal contributions in a single half, joining Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Atlético Madrid’s Alexander Sørloth.
Lookman’s historic feat came on October 26 during Atalanta’s 6-1 rout of Hellas Verona. In a blistering opening 45 minutes, the 27-year-old scored twice and provided two assists, effectively killing off the game by halftime.
This moment capped off a standout season for Lookman, who notched 20 goals and seven assists in 40 appearances across all competitions. His ability to deliver on big occasions was evident throughout the campaign, with goals against Juventus, AC Milan, Roma, and champions Napoli.
According to StatMuse, only Palmer and Sørloth matched Lookman’s four first-half contributions. Palmer struck all four of Chelsea’s goals in a 4-2 win over Brighton, while Sørloth delivered a rapid four-goal burst for Atlético Madrid in a 4-0 victory over Real Sociedad.
However, Lookman’s future at Atalanta is now under scrutiny. Arsenal have reportedly submitted a €50 million-plus-bonuses bid that includes defender Jakub Kiwior. Atalanta are holding out for €65–70 million. Liverpool, Napoli, and Juventus are also circling.
Notably, Lookman missed Atalanta’s first pre-season session, fueling transfer rumours. The Italian club is reportedly keen to retain the reigning Africa Footballer of the Year and may offer a new deal with a release clause and improved salary.
Wherever he lands next, Lookman’s star continues to rise rapidly.
