Gunmen suspected to be bandits have invaded a community in Zamfara State, abducting 27 residents three months after kidnapping 23 persons in the same community. They were kidnapped in December 2025.

This brings to 50 the number of the residents now in the captivity of the marauders.

The gunmen were said to have invaded Nahuce community in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Sunday night, killing one person and abducting 27 persons, mostly women, including pregnant women and nursing mothers.

They reportedly arrived the community on motorcycles and on seeing them, the men were said to have fled into the bush while the pregnant women and nursing mother who found it hard to run were picked up and taken away.

A source close to the local government told Impact Nigeria News Online on Monday evening that some of the men made distress calls to security agencies from their hiding places, but none of the security agencies allegedly came to their rescue.

The source added that the abduction might not be unconnected with the inability of the residents to meet the deadline of payment of the levy imposed on them by the bandits.

The Northern part of the country, especially the North-West, has been under the grips of bandits and terrorists who unleash mayhem on residents, killing some and abducting others.

On many occasions, they invade communities and carry out their atrocities unchallenged, just as some of the communities have no choice but to sign “peace deals” with the marauders in order to enjoy relative peace.

Both the state governments and various security agencies seem to look the other way while the terrorists and bandits unleash mayhem on residents in some of the states.
