A young man described as an armourer of the dreaded cult group, Aiye Confraternity, has been arrested at a community in Lagos State over cases of incessant petrol theft from parked vehicles linked to him.
The armourer, Jelili Adeyemi, aged 35 years, was arrested on Saturday, June 27, by the operatives of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Imota Command, during a surveillance operation in Imota area of Ikorodu.
The arrest followed complaints from residents of the Araromi community over recurring petrol theft from parked vehicles.
Acting on the intelligence, LNSC officers intensified surveillance and, at about 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, they intercepted the man in connection with the theft.
A subsequent search of the man’s residence at Number 13, Agundugbun Street, Imota, resulted in the recovery of two locally-made guns, three locally-made shotguns, military camouflage items, jack knives, a stun gun device, cutlasses, handcuffs, used cartridges, and other items.
During his interrogation after his arrest, the man confessed to keeping weapons for members of the Aiye cult group.
“The suspect and recovered exhibits have been handed over to the Imota Police Division for further investigation and possible prosecution,” the agency said in a statement on Saturday.
