The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) cannot be trusted with the future of Nigeria.
He said the APC had failed Nigerians and could not be trusted with a second term.
“The APC said it will create jobs for us, today there is massive unemployment. The APC promised security, today, there is a high level of insecurity in Nigeria. The APC promised us an economic revival; today Nigeria is the poverty capital of the world. These are people that cannot be trusted.
“I promise you, I will create jobs; I have been doing it and I will turn this country around if you vote for me,” Atiku said.
Atiku said this during PDP’s mega presidential rally at the Tafawa Belewa Square (TBS) in Lagos.
He also said if elected he would do his best to address the problems of Lagos State.
“I am a Lagosian; I came to Lagos before most of you here. Let me assure the people of Lagos and the South West in general that I will address their problems. When I say I am going to do something, I will do it. I have said I will restructure this country and I will do it,” Atiku said.
The PDP declared that February 16 and March 2 would be liberation day for Nigeria as a country and Lagos State and urged Lagosians to vote for the party in all the elections.
National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, accused the APC of plotting to bring in pre-thumbed printed ballot papers which it would use to rig, warning that the PDP would not allow the same kind of rigging that robbed them of victory in Ekiti and Osun states.
He said the APC administration had brought hardship on Nigerians and Lagosians in particular.
“Since Buhari came in, businesses in Lagos have shut down; the economy and security have collapsed.
“But on Saturday, a man that has been tested and trusted will take over. He will open the closed businesses and create jobs and Lagos will become the economic capital of West Africa,” Secondus said.
Secondus also called for the prosecution of Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El’Rufai over a statement that local and international observers who meddle in the election process would return home in body-bags.
Former national chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George, said the fact that congested trailers were removed from Lagos roads during President Buhari’s visit was an indication that the traffic situation worsened by trailers could be solved.
Former Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State said a new president would be sworn in on May 29. PDP chieftains at the rally included the vice presidential candidate of the party, Peter Obi, Senator Ben Bruce, Senator Ben Obi, former Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel among others.
