Bandits on Sunday afternoon ambushed members of the royal guard attached to an emir in Zamfara State, popularly known as Dogaris, and shot one of them to death in the process.

The bandits were said to have ambushed the guards of the Emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmad, while they were travelling along the Mayanchi-Anka highway to Gusau, the state capital, for an official duty, shooting into their vehicle.

Sadly, one of the Dogaris who used to hold the Emir’s ceremonial umbrella, whose name was given simply as Jamilu, was hit by the bandits bullet during the attack.

A source close to the state told Impact Nigeria News Online on Sunday night that the man was eventually rushed to the General Hospital, Gusau, after the bandits left, but he later died while receiving treatment.

Jamilu is expected to be buried according to Islamic rites on Monday, March 16.

In the same Zamfara State, gunmen suspected to be bandits on Saturday engaged in a gun duel with soldiers escorting a convoy of vehicles carrying commuters on a road in the state, fleeing with 20 captives in the process.

The gunmen were said to have ambushed the soldiers and the convoy on the Dansadau-Gusau road, leading to an exchange of gunfire.

The soldiers reportedly had an upper hand during the gun duel, wounding some of the marauders.

However, as they fled into the forest during the encounter, they took along about 20 of the commuters while the soldiers are reported to be searching for them as of the time of this report.
