A man described as a notorious leader of a cult group, Eiye Confraternity, at the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, has been arrested by men of the state police command over murder.
The man, whose name was given as Akinwale Tomiwa, alias Ibaka, was arrested in connection with the killing of a resident of Owo, Ojo Peters, as well as cult-related attacks at Owo and its environs.
It was gathered that the operatives of the command’s Special Anti-Cultism Squad in Akure, while acting on credible intelligence indicating he was sighted around NEPA Junction in Akure, mobilised to the location and arrested him.
During their preliminary investigation, he was found to have been involved in the killing of Ojo Peter, which occurred on December 12, 2025 in Owo said to have been in connection with cult-related rivalry.
“Further intelligence also revealed that he was recently featured on a cult-related social media platform for participating in an attack on suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity, along Fasawe Street in Owo.
“The attack was reportedly part of an ongoing supremacy battle between rival cult groups within the area,” the command wrote in a statement on Sunday, March 15.
According to the command, when a search was conducted on his apartment, several charms believed to be used for protection and intimidation during cult activities were recovered.
He was said to have given more useful information to the police operatives and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigation after which he is expected to be charged to court.
