A soldier and two residents have been killed while other residents have fled as bandits struck a community in Kano State and carried out attack that lasted for hours.
The bandits struck Faruruwa community in Shanono Local Government Area of the state and carried out the attack that began from Thursday night and ended around 4:00 a.m. on Friday, January 2.
Sources close to the community told Impact Nigeria News Online on Friday that the bandits came purposely to abduct residents and rustle cattle but they were resisted by some soldiers guarding the community.
This led to a gun duel between the bandits, said to be many, and the soldiers during which a soldier was shot dead while two residents were also killed in the crossfire.
The bandits eventually succeeded in rustling the cattle but they were unable to abduct any person as the residents fled during the gun duel between the bandits and the soldiers.
The incident came as the armed bandits also on Thursday evening, around 8:00 p.m., blocked the Guga-Bakori Road between Unguwar Alhaji Bello community and Guga town in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, robbing travellers, snatching bikes and injuring several victims that are currently on admission at Guga Primary Health Centre.
The Northern part of the country, especially the North-West, has been under the grips of bandits who unleash terror on residents, abducting them and imposing levies on others.
