Bandits on Sunday night invaded a community in Bauchi State, killing seven residents and injuring many others before returning to the forest.
The bandits, who came on motorcycles, attacked residents of Sabon Garin Pali in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, killing the persons and injuring others when they went on a shooting spree.
In fact, the seven residents that were killed were buried on Monday afternoon in accordance with Islamic rites led by the Imam of the community mosque.
A source close to the local government area told Impact Nigeria News Online on Monday night that the marauders carried out the dastardly act following the alleged refusal of the residents to pay a levy imposed on them.
The source said the killing came as a surprise because cases of bandits attacks are not common in Bauchi State in recent times.
In another positive development, bandits who invaded Gidan Hazo community in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State on Sunday night were met with resistance from local vigilantes and residents.
The bandits were said to have arrived the community around 10:30 p.m., shooting sporadically into the air. Their shooting attracted the attention of the vigilantes and other residents who mobilised and confronted them.
The vigilantes and other residents reportedly engaged them in a gun duel and successfully repelled the attackers who were forced to flee the scene without killing, injuring or abducting anyone.
It was however gathered that some of the residents have fled the community over fears that the bandits may mobilise and return to attack the community.
Many communities in Katsina State have been under the constant grips of bandits and terrorists who unleash mayhem on residents, killing some and abducting others.
