Gunmen said to be bandits on Friday night invaded a farmland at a community in Niger State, opened fire and killed six farmers in the process.
The bandits invaded the farmland in Unguwar Wawa community, Borgu Local Government Area of the state around 10:00 p.m., saw the farmers still working on their farms and killed six of them.
A source close to the community told Impact Nigeria News Online on Saturday that after carrying out the heinous act, they fled the scene before the arrival of security operatives.
The community was said to have been thrown into grief following the killing, as the residents said the bandits had earlier reached a ‘peace deal’ with their leaders, guaranteeing the safety of everyone, including the farmers.
The latest killing adds to a growing pattern of violent attacks targeting rural farming communities across parts of Niger State, raising renewed concerns over the safety of farmers and the adequacy of security presence in remote areas.
The Northern part of the country including the North-East, has been under the grips of bandits and terrorists who unleash mayhem on residents of various communities, killing residents and abducting others.
