The Public Relations Officer of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, on Saturday, January 24, caused a buzz on the social media when she said no matter how much she loves a man, she cannot marry him if his mother doesn’t like her.

The Police PRO said this on her verified X handle, saying though love is important, family acceptance is very necessary and peace of mind is very important.

She was reacting to the post by a man who said if his mother doesn’t love the lady he is dating, he would never marry her.

She said she agreed totally with what the man said, adding that she too would never marry a man whose mother does not like her.

She wrote: “I saw a post where a young man said if his mother doesn’t love the woman he’s dating, he won’t marry her and honestly, I agree 100 per cent.

“This is because I can’t imagine marrying a man whose mother doesn’t like me. Peace of mind is important.

“Love is sweet, but family’s acceptance truly matters. After all… I’m marrying you and your mama oooo.”

Her comment elicited reactions from her followers and below are some of the reactions:

@Odelora_ said: “Love starts it, but marriage doesn’t exist in isolation. You’re not just dating the person, you’re dating the family too. Constant tension with a partner’s mum is a peace-killer. Parental input should be wise counsel, not control — but peace of mind matters.”

@ozeAir_ wrote: “Love isn’t easy in general. Hope everyone find their dream man/woman.”
