Gunmen suspected to be bandits on Tuesday evening launched a deadly attack on a community in Kaduna State, killing three persons and injuring others in the process.
The bandits were said to have stormed the Galadimawa community in Giwa Local Government Area of the state on motorcycles around 4:30 p.m., unleashing mayhem.
During the attack that lasted for about an hour, three residents: Hassan Mai Magani, Magaji Sarauta and Yakubu Mai Gwangwan, were shot dead while others including Umar Abbas, Aliyu Tela, and Hamisu Manaja, sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
A source in the know of the incident told Impact Nigeria News Online on Wednesday evening that despite appeals by residents reminding them of the peace deal they had, the marauders remained unperturbed and went on to carry out the attack unchallenged.
The source also said more persons would have been killed by the bandits if not that some residents fled into the bush on sighting the approaching marauders.
Those who were killed were said to have been buried on Wednesday afternoon in accordance with Islamic rites while many of those who fled into the bush are yet to return for fear of fresh attacks.
In another development, some bandits have turned the deserted village of Adarawa in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State into a new operational base after residents fled the community.
They were said to have occupied the school and health centre, using the structures in the village to coordinate movements and launch attacks on nearby communities.
While they have occupied the deserted village, security agencies who are aware of the development seem to have turned the other side, leaving them to operate without challenge.
