Anguish has enveloped a community in Kebbi State following the killing of a vigilante commander and two other operatives by gunmen suspected to be bandits.
The vigilante commander and the two operatives from Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State were ambushed and killed while returning from Agwara, a border community in Niger State before their bodies were set ablaze.
The names of the victims were given as Abubakar Mai Nera, the vigilante commander; Tanko Sarki and Amadu Saminaka, all from Saminaka and Bakinturu communities in the local government area.
According to sources in the know of the incident, they were attacked around Kasabo, a place close to a river along the Niger-Kebbi border after they were ambished and after shooting them dead, the attackers went ahead to set their bodies ablaze.
The incident was said to have happened last Friday, but the burnt bodies of the three men have not yet been recovered by community members who have embarked on a search after hearing about the killing.
The sources also said security agencies had been informed about the incident and they are also making frantic efforts to recover the bodies.
