Bandits who abducted 11 persons at a village in Sokoto State have released five of the victims while holding on to the remaining six after collecting the sum of N10 million and two motorcycles as ransom.
Two months ago, the bandits invaded Takakume village in Achida ward, Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State, abducted the 11 residents and took them into the forest.
However, after spending two months in captivity and following the payment of the ransom, five of the captives were released on Tuesday afternoon and their arrival at the village received jubilation from their relatives.
A source close to the authorities in the local government area told Impact Nigeria News Online on Wednesday morning that the relatives of the remaining captives are currently apprehensive, praying that the marauders will also release their family members.
In another development, bandits armed with sophisticated weapons, on Monday night attacked Moriki town in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
During the attack, they killed Mr Lauwali Musa Moriki, the local government health educator and abducted several civilians, both men and women, including his family members.
The Northern part of the country, especially the North-West, has been under the grips of bandits and terrorists who unleash mayhem on residents, killing some and abducting others.
