Some members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in collaboration with vigilante groups have killed the leader of a bandits group in Zamfara State during a gun battle with the marauders.

The CJTF and the vigilantes were said to have shot the bandits leader, whose name was given as Kachallah Isihu Buzu, dead while his foot soldiers fled in different directions during the gun battle in Moriki area, Zurmi Local Government Area of the state.

Zamfara State has had a fair share of bandit attacks in recent times, as many communities in the state have been under incessant invasion by the bandits who abduct them and demand for ransom.

A competent source in the state told Impact Nigeria News Online on Saturday, December 20, that Buzu and his gang of bandits had for some time terrorised residents of the area before the CJTF and vigilantes summoned courage and engaged them in the battle.

According to the source, during the encounter, the CJTF and the vigilantes targetted mostly Buzu and shot him dead. The source added that there were indications that Buzu was also beheaded after he was killed.

The news of the death of the bandits leader received wild jubilation from the residents who said it will be a relief after months of invasion.

Many communities in the state have entered into ‘peace deals’ with some of the bandits while other bandits have imposed levies on communities in order to have relative peace.

However, after signing the ‘peace deals’ in many cases, the bandits used to violate them by invading the communities, setting homes ablaze, killing residents and abducting others.

But, while the bandits are having a field day, the state government and security agencies seem to be looking the other way.
