Details have emerged on how a former staff member of an oil company died while fighting with a man inside a beer parlour in Akwa Ibom State during an argument between them.
In fact, the state police command confirmed the death of the man, whose name was given as Essien James, a former contract staff member of the ExxonMobil, saying the culprit, Lawrence Alfred, had been arrested and he was giving police information about the incident.
A family source, who wants to remain anonymous, disclosed that the fight between the deceased and the suspect happened in a beer parlour.
The source said: “While they were drinking in a beer parlour, an argument ensued, which led to a fight. The suspect pushed the deceased down and hit his head with a stone.
”He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead by a doctor. The culprit fled to Onna Local Government Area of the state after the incident and hid there before he was arrested by the police.”
Also, the Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner, Mr Baba Azare, confirmed the incident on Saturday, saying it occurred in Eket Local Government Area of the State.
Azare added that the man had a fight with Lawrence Alfred on December 6 which resulted in his death.
He said the incident was reported to the police on December 8 by the family of the deceased.
Azare, who disclosed that the man who he fought with had been arrested, said investigations are underway to unravel the circumstances leading to his death.
