The Delta State Police Command has arrested a man who called himself a content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, alias “Odogwu of Asaba,” after a 20-year-old lady he allegedly lured and raped committed suicide by drinking a popular insecticide.
The arrest followed a petition received by the command alleging that on July 1, the lady travelled to Asaba, the state capital, on the invitation of the man who had offered to train her in content creation which he reportedly promoted through his social media platform.
According to the petition, upon her arrival in Asaba, the man took her to a hotel, where he allegedly raped her and subjected her to physical violence.
She was said to have returned home later in the day in a distress situation and disclosed the incident to her parents.
In the aftermath of the alleged assault, the lady reportedly made a video recording in which she recounted her experience and the emotional distress she suffered following the incident.
She subsequently commited suicide by drinking the insecticide. Though she was rushed to a hospital, all efforts by medical personnel to save her life proved abortive.
After receiving the petition, the Commissioner of Police in the state directed operatives of the command to carry out an immediate and thorough investigation into the allegations.
Acting on the directive, operatives swiftly commenced investigation, leading to the arrest of “Odogwu of Asaba.”
During preliminary investigation, he was said to have made useful statements to the police, while further investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
