The Ondo State Police Command is currently unravelling the circumstances surrounding the discovery of what it described as a “baby factory” after a 17-year-old girl impregnated inside the premises escaped and exposed the atrocities going inside the place.
The command said it uncovered the baby factory and human trafficking syndicate operating within Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state, after the girl, who was brought from Akwa Ibom State, escaped and revealed the goings on inside the facility.
The incident came to light on October 21 when the 17-year-old girl (name withheld), from Ikot Ekpan, Akwa Ibom State, reported at Ore Division that she was impregnated after she was trafficked from Akwa Ibom to Ore under the guise of being offered a job opportunity.
However, upon her arrival in Ore, she stated that she was impregnated by a man at a supposed clinic which later turned out to be a baby factory, where she also met other pregnant girls allegedly being held for exploitation.
She further revealed that the owner of the facility, identified as one Ada Clement, later instructed that she be taken to another hospital in Ore for a medical scan. However, she managed to escape and sought refuge at Ore Division, where she reported the incident to the police.
The command wrote: “Acting swiftly on the report, operatives from Ore Division, in collaboration with the Gender unit, raided the said facility, leading to the rescue of five pregnant girls and a baby boy.
“It was discovered that one of the victims had already given birth and is presently receiving post-natal treatment at the General Hospital, Ore, while the remaining rescued victims are in safe protective custody of the police.”
Information gathered regarding the incident revealed that before the lid was blown open by the pregnant girl, the syndicate used to get the girls impregnated and after they give birth, the woman and her collaborators will take the babies and sell them to willing buyers.
Those arrested were said to have given more useful information to the operatives regarding their nefarious activities and they are expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
