A man who was said to be a major supplier of weapons and ammunition to bandits in the Northern part of the country has been arrested alongside his female collaborator by men of the Delta State Police Command.
The state police command announced the arrest of the man and the lady in a statement on Saturday, October 25, as it said the man, Ahmed Ibrahim, aged 31 years, of Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state, was arrested by the operatives attached to the CP’s Special Assignment Team following intelligence report gathered from the Force Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU), Abuja.
According to reports, the operatives first arrested a lady whose name was given as Jamila Abubakar, at Conoil Filling Station, Warri–Patani Road, Effurun, and the sum of ₦550,000 concealed beneath her bag, suspected to be proceeds from illicit transactions, was recovered from her.
Her arrest was said to have provided a lead that set off a well-coordinated follow-up operation which made the operatives to storm the Niger-Cat area of Warri where Ahmed Ibrahim was arrested.
The command wrote: “A search led to the recovery of a bag containing 115 rounds of 7.63mm AK-47 live ammunition, 220 rounds of SMG rifle ammunition and 32 live cartridges.”
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is a key supplier of weapons to bandit groups in the North and has long been on the command’s watch list for his alleged role in several high-profile kidnapping and armed-robbery operations.”
The man and the woman were said to have given more useful information to the police operatives and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Asaba. They are expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.
