A man who belongs to the cult group known as Vikings Confraternity and who described himself as the executioner of the group has told men of the Anambra State Police Command how he was contracted by some people to kill five persons at a community in the state.
The man, whose name was given as Favour Izunna, aged 22 years, was arrested by the operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cultism unit of the command on April 30.
According to information, an executioner in a cult group is the person in charge of killing members of rival cult groups, especially during clashes among confraternities.
He was described by the command as a dreaded member of the Vikings Confraternity, where he operates as an executioner responsible for terrorising Obosi community and its environs.
During interrogation after his arrest, Izunna confessed to the gruesome murder of about five persons in Obosi. However, he was able to name three of the victims as: Somtochukwu Alfred, Udechukwu Izuchukwu, and Izuchukwu Obi.
“He also disclosed the involvement of certain sponsors who allegedly contracted him to carry out the killings within the community,” the command said in a statement on Wednesday, May 6.
In addition to these, the man also admitted to participating in several kidnapping operations within Anambra State, including abduction of victims identified as Emeka Chukwuka (male) and Chinelo Onyeka (female), among others.
Subsequently, with support from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), during a search on his hideout in Obosi, various items including one pump-action gun, five live cartridges, one locally-made pistol and seven rounds of live ammunition were said to have been recovered.
His case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigations while the command is intensifying efforts towards the arrest of other gang members and the alleged sponsors currently at large.
