The Lagos State Police Command says it has arrested 23 suspected cult members in connection with the violent clash that left three people dead and several others injured in Lekki Phase 1.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, August 31, was the result of a bloody confrontation between rival cult gangs, throwing the usually serene neighbourhood into chaos.
Confirming the arrests, the police said investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the gangs who fled the scene. Weapons and other exhibits were also reportedly recovered during the operation.
Cult-related violence has become a recurring concern in Lagos, with gangs not only engaging in bloody turf wars but also fuelling other criminal activities such as robbery and extortion. Authorities say the latest arrests are part of efforts to clamp down on cultism across the state.
Police have assured residents of Lekki and other parts of Lagos that security patrols have been intensified to forestall further clashes.
