Afrobeats star Davido has pulled out of a high-profile July 3 concert at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London alongside American icons 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige. He announced the decision on June 15 via Instagram, citing “major misalignments” in logistics that, he said, would compromise the quality of his performance.
The event, promoted by Iconic Presents and The Necto Future Group, was billed as a major fusion of Afrobeats and hip-hop. Davido’s withdrawal has since sparked debate over artist treatment, cultural equity, and professionalism in international collaborations.
While some speculated his exit was linked to low ticket sales or backstage politics—rumors amplified by a controversial post from producer Samklef—Davido denied any external pressure, insisting his decision was made independently and on professional grounds.
No official comment has been issued by the event organizers. The concert is expected to go ahead with 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige as headliners.
Davido reassured fans he will still perform in London later this summer as part of his 5Alive tour. His stance has been widely seen as a bold call for greater respect for African artists on the global stage.
