Media entrepreneur and publisher, Dele Momodu, has dismissed reports linking him to a possible vice-presidential bid alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, stating that he has no intention of contesting for any elective office.
In a statement shared via social media on Thursday, the Ovation magazine publisher described the circulating claim as a distraction and urged supporters to disregard it.
“When I first received this poster from a friend, I dismissed it as a joke designed to distract us… I will be most grateful if my friends and party members can do me the honour of ignoring this joke,” he said.
Momodu stressed that his focus ahead of the 2027 general elections is on strengthening opposition collaboration rather than pursuing personal political ambition.
“I’m not running for any race again. I’m interested in humbly supporting the coalition of political parties, to work together and oust the incompetent APC government,” he added.
The publisher, who is associated with the African Democratic Congress, noted that the party already has several capable leaders qualified to contest for top offices, insisting there is no shortage of credible candidates.
According to him, there are “more than enough leaders” within the party to represent its interests in future elections.
Momodu also addressed criticisms directed at Atiku, urging more civil political discourse. He reminded critics that Peter Obi had previously contested as Atiku’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election.
He cautioned against inflammatory rhetoric targeting political opponents, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and called for issue-based engagement.
Reiterating his position, Momodu said he would support whoever emerges as his party’s candidate, emphasising that his priority remains building a united and formidable opposition coalition ahead of 2027.
