Despite the signing of a ‘peace deal’ between bandits and a community in Katsina State, the marauders have stormed the place, asking residents to pay a N2 million levy within one week or get attacked.
The bandits were said to have stormed Unguwar Bugau community in Dayi Ward, Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State on Saturday around 3:00 p.m., went to the leaders of the community and made the demand.
A competent source close to the community told Impact Nigeria News Online on Sunday afternoon that though residents of the community began to panic on sighting the bandits who came on motorcycles, the marauders didn’t abduct anyone.
They were said to have told the residents that they didn’t come to abduct anyone, saying they only came there to table their demand before their leaders and failure to meet the demand will lead to severe consequences.
It was gathered that Malumfashi is one of the local government areas in the state where many communities entered into ‘peace deal’ with bandits who promised not to harm or abduct them. However, in some of the communities, the bandits used to breach the deal after a few months.
The bandits, in the case of the above community, were said to have given the elders till next Saturday to make the N2 million available in order for them to continue to enjoy the ‘peace deal.’
The Northern region of the country, especially the North-West, has been under constant attacks by bandits and terrorists who always raid communities, killing residents and abducting others.
