Former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Suswam had earlier on Wednesday, February 4, cited persistent internal conflicts within the PDP as the reason for his defection.
The former governor’s defection to the APC was announced on Facebook by his Chief of Staff, Moses Ukeyima, on Wednesday.
Ukeyima said Suswam has also registered his membership of the APC and was captured by the party’s on-going e-registration platform.
He said, “Moments ago, the former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, performed his first duty as a card-carrying member of the All Progressives Congress, by registering in his Mbagber Council Ward in Logo Local Government Area, Benue State, Nigeria.
“He was captured on the party’s ongoing e-registration platform. The exercise was conducted by the state organising secretary, James Ornguga, and Angura Bishop, on behalf of the state chairman, who presented the new membership card to Senator Chief Suswam.”
While announcing his exit from the PDP, Suswam explained that the internal crisis within the party, spanning various areas, have persisted without a clear or credible pathway to resolution.
He said, “The party that once stood as a symbol of cohesion, internal democracy, and progressive opposition has, regrettably, become plagued by persistent and unresolved internal conflicts.
“These disputes, spanning leadership, structure, discipline, and ideology, have been allowed to fester without any clear or credible pathway to resolution.”
The former governor expressed gratitude for the opportunities provided by the PDP to serve in various capacities.
