An explosion occurred on Monday evening near the Nigerian Army’s Mogadishu Cantonment, popularly known as Abacha Barracks, in Abuja.
The Nigerian Army confirmed the incident in a brief statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, describing the location as a bus stop opposite the military facility.
“Explosion at bus stop opposite Mogadishu Cantonment Abuja. Situation under control,” the post read.
As of the time of reporting, the cause of the explosion remains unknown, and there has been no official confirmation of casualties or damage.
The Army assured the public that further details will be provided as investigations continue.
The Mogadishu Cantonment is one of the largest military installations in the Federal Capital Territory and houses a significant number of personnel and their families. The incident has raised security concerns, although authorities have yet to link it to any group or cause.
Residents in the area reported hearing a loud bang around the time of the incident, but military and emergency services were quickly deployed to secure the scene.
