A dismissed policeman who specialised in snatching motorcycles from the owners after extorting them of various amounts of money has been arrested by men of the Niger State Police Command.
Police operatives attached to the command arrested the dismissed policeman, Haruna Haggai, aged 30 years, based on technical intelligence after they receivd complaints from some of his victims.
The long arm of the law caught up with him when his last victim lodged a report that he was riding his motorcycle along Kpakungu Road when the man stopped him, posed as a policeman, forcefully collected the motorcycle and extorted the sum of N150,000 from him after tagging him as a fraudster. He thereafter went away with the motorcycle.
After he was arrested and during investigation by the police operatives, it was discovered that the same man, who who dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force in 2018 over an undisclosed offence, was arrested with one other for a similar crime in October 2025, when he snatched a motorcycle around Shiroro road from a victim and extorted N400,000 from the owner.
He was said to have been charged to court then but the complainant later withdrew the case, opting for out of court settlement.
The command added that he was also found to be harassing and terrorising members of the public around Sauka-Kahuta area and its environs, extorting and robbing victims of their valuables while posing as a police officer.
He was said to have given more useful information to the police operatives while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and he is expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
