The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has accused popular Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, widely known as Kwam 1, of breaching aviation regulations by attempting to bring an alcoholic drink onto a commercial flight and disrupting operations at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
According to a statement released on Wednesday, the incident occurred on Monday during boarding for ValueJet Airlines Flight VK 201, a morning flight to Lagos. FAAN said preliminary investigations confirmed that despite repeated warnings from Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel and the flight captain, Kwam 1 insisted on carrying an unidentified liquid substance onboard.
An airline security officer requested the musician to step aside for clarification, but he allegedly refused and proceeded to spill the contents of a flask – later identified as alcohol – on the officer. Attempts by the flight captain to intervene reportedly met with similar resistance.
FAAN spokesperson Obiageli Orah said the authority is conducting a thorough investigation and vowed that all parties found culpable would face legal consequences.
Kwam 1, a highly influential Nigerian musician and known personal friend of President Bola Tinubu, has come under scrutiny following the incident.
The Federal Airports Authority emphasized the importance of adherence to aviation safety regulations to ensure the safety and comfort of all passengers.
