Mr. Obi Levi Obieze, also known as “E dey play e dey show,” alongside two other suspects, was arraigned on Wednesday on a seven-count charge involving kidnapping and murder in Umumba Ndiagu community, Ezeagu Local Government Area, Enugu State.
Obieze was arrested at the Badagry-Seme border while attempting to flee Nigeria. His arrest followed allegations of involvement in a series of abductions, kidnappings, and ritual killings that have unsettled the Umumba Ndiagu community.
The suspects appeared before His Worship, Magistrate Osondu Chukwuani at Court 1, Enugu North. The charges, marked MEN/473c/2025 and signed by the Prosecutor and Head of Legal Team for Enugu State Police Command, Superintendent of Police Justice Attah Esq, outline multiple offenses committed between April and May 2025.
The charges include conspiracy to commit kidnapping and the actual kidnapping of three individuals – Ukamaka (13 years), Chimaobi Ezi (15 years), and Joy Miracle Udokamma (31 years) – all involving personal violence. The accused also face charges of conspiracy to commit murder and the unlawful killing of Chimaobi Ezi and Joy Miracle Udokamma.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to all seven counts. Magistrate Chukwuani ruled that the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) should review the charges and recommend that the case be transferred to a higher court, as Magistrate Courts lack jurisdiction over capital offenses.
The matter was adjourned to August 20, with the accused remanded in prison custody pending the next hearing.
This arraignment aligns with Governor Peter Mbah’s administration’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on crime in Enugu State, reaffirming the government’s resolve to ensure justice prevails.
