Nigerian High Commissioner-designate to South Africa, Femi Fani-Kayode, on Tuesday, September 29, gave details of how three Nigerians were killed in South Africa between September 18 and September 21.
He disclosed this in a post on his verified X handle, saying the government in South Africa should ensure justice over the killings that took place within four days.
According to him, the three Nigerians were Kenechukwu Christopher Igwemmadu, killed in in Bloemfontein; Olaniyi Olaleye Olatunde killed in Pretoria; and Christian Hillary Nnaemeka, who was killed in Primrose.
He added that these killings occurred in different circumstances, as one followed an alleged encounter with police, while the other was a shooting after a dispute in a nightclub, just as the third followed an alleged encounter with a private crew associated with a South African, one Mr Xolani Khumalo.
He said this year alone, 12 Nigerian deaths were recorded, while 112 Nigerians had been killed in the country since 2022, including cases the Nigerian Mission in South Africa has linked to security personnel.
“Their families deserve answers. So does the Nigerian community. They should not be treated as one incident. They should each be investigated to the end.
“I also renew our request for a progress report on the killing of Emeka Clement Uzor on 9 February, a case in which no arrest has been reported to our Mission,” he said.
