The Federal Government has launched a new health awareness initiative, Yo! Health, aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and empowering young Nigerians with the knowledge and resources needed to take control of their health.
Minister of State for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, unveiled the initiative on Thursday in Abuja, describing it as a strategic move to prioritise the well-being of Nigeria’s youth population. He noted that the programme is designed to address increasing health concerns among young people by improving access to accurate health information and promoting preventive care.
“Yo! Health is a collaborative effort that brings together the Federal Ministries of Health and Women Affairs, along with civil society organisations, international development partners, the private sector, and youth-focused groups,” Olawande said.
The initiative will focus on key areas including mental health, sexual and reproductive health, and physical well-being, while also working to improve access to essential health services.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, highlighted the urgency of the initiative, citing Nigeria’s youthful demographic. He stated that out of the country’s estimated 235 million population, around 75 percent are under the age of 35, with approximately 24 percent falling within the core youth age bracket.
“The objective is not just to raise awareness of critical health issues, but also to encourage young Nigerians to take greater ownership of their health,” Pate said.

The Yo! Health campaign is expected to serve as a platform for health education, early intervention, and youth engagement, contributing to national development by fostering a healthier, more informed generation.
