An 84-year-old man who was said to have deliberately jumped inside well in a case of “attempted suicide” was on Tuesday, January 27, rescued by men of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. at No. 35A, Fadeyemi Street, Pipeline, Aboru, Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Area of the state, when the aged man was said to have deliberately opened the cover of the well and jumped inside.
As he jumped inside the 140-foot well, one of the residents made a distress call to the Abesan Fire Station, prompting the organisation’s rescue team to race to the scene.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement: “Preliminary investigation indicated a suspected case of attempted suicide, as the well was adequately protected and securely covered.
“The victim was successfully recovered by the rescue team and subsequently handed over to the family members for further necessary attention. The exact cause of the incident is subjected to further investigation.”
