It was the end of the road for five men who posed as members of a vigilante group and used the opportunity to rob residents in Anambra State as they have been arrested by men of the state police command.
According to reports by the command on Sunday, December 21, the men, Solomon Saddah, Okolocha George Kaosisochukwu, John Obi Ogwaju, Chukwuemeka Chisom Ikenwa and Eze Obinna Joshua, were arrested by the operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad following intelligence reports gathered about their nefarious activities.
It was gathered that the men disguised as vigilantes and operated with a tinted shuttle bus to rob residents of areas such as Ring Road, Nibo and Awka, the state capital.
At the point of their arrest, items said to have been recovered from them included two pump-action guns, five live cartridges, the ash coloured shuttle bus, face masks, number plates, among others.
According to the command, during interrogation, they admitted their involvement in criminal activities and revealed how they operated in the shuttle bus under the guise of vigilante personnel to commit havoc.
“They are currently cooperating with the police and providing information that will assist in uncovering other criminal collaborators and networks,” the command added.
They are also expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation into their nefarious activities.
The state police command has been grappling with the activities of various criminal groups including armed robbers, kidnappers, cultists, among others, terrorising residents of some parts of the state. Some of those arrested had been charged to courts.
