At least four residents have been killed following a fresh terrorist attack on Wuyya village in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, further highlighting the worsening security situation in the North-West.
The attack reportedly occurred on Sunday night when armed assailants invaded the community and opened fire on residents, leaving four people dead.
Confirming the incident on Monday, security analyst and conflict tracker, Bakatsine, said the attackers stormed the village overnight and carried out the deadly assault.
“Last night, bandits attacked Wuyya village in Anka LGA, Zamfara State, killing four residents,” he said in a security update.
According to him, the victims were buried on Monday morning in line with Islamic rites as residents mourned their loss amid growing fears over persistent insecurity in the area.
“The victims have been buried according to Islamic rites this morning as mourning grips the community, with growing concern over worsening insecurity in the area,” he added.
The latest attack has renewed concerns about the continued wave of violence across Zamfara State, where terrorist groups have repeatedly targeted rural communities despite ongoing military operations aimed at restoring peace.
Residents have continued to express frustration over the frequency of attacks and the vulnerability of remote communities to armed raids, kidnappings and killings.
Bakatsine questioned how long rural communities in the state would continue to endure deadly attacks without adequate protection.
Zamfara, alongside neighbouring Katsina State, remains one of the regions most affected by terrorism, mass abductions and cattle rustling in recent years.
The persistent violence has displaced thousands of residents, forced several communities to flee their homes and left many villages living under constant fear of attacks.
Despite intensified security operations, residents say the threat of violence remains widespread, with many communities still struggling to find lasting protection.
