Operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have recovered a double-barrelled gun from one of the vehicles involved in an accident in Anambra State.
The FRSC said the firearm was recovered on Friday, July 24, at road traffic crash scene along the Awka-Enugu Expressway.
It was gathered that the rescue patrol team, while carrying out a routine inventory of victims’ belongings after concluding rescue operations, discovered the double-barrelled gun concealed among luggage inside one of the crashed vehicles.
“The rescue team immediately secured the firearm to prevent unauthorised access or possible misuse. As no claimant or valid documentation for the weapon was available at the point of recovery, it was promptly handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and necessary action,” the FRSC said in a statement on Saturday, July 25.
Speaking on the development, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the professionalism, vigilance and integrity displayed by the rescue team, noting that the incident further proves the strategic role of FRSC in supporting internal security through its nationwide patrol and rescue operations.
